Rugby numbers are tied to positions — #1 is always the loosehead prop, #9 is the scrum-half. But squad numbers still need to be fairly distributed among players who may share positions. This tool handles it.

#1–8 — Forwards

Loosehead Prop (#1), Hooker (#2), Tighthead Prop (#3), Locks (#4, #5), Flankers (#6, #7), and Number Eight (#8).

#9–15 — Backs

Scrum-half (#9), Fly-half (#10), Centres (#12, #13), Wings (#11, #14), and Fullback (#15). #10 is one of the most coveted in rugby.

#16–23 — Replacements

In match-day squads, #16 is typically the replacement hooker through #23 for additional backs.

Do rugby squad numbers have to match positions?

Not for squad numbers — they're personal to the player across the season. Match-day shirt numbers are different and assigned per game.

Can we run a second round for players who join mid-season?
